LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: So Fresh So Clean

Let's Hear it for the Boys

The trend for fall 2012 and spring 2013 is either to wear head-to-toe prints or to be very clean, simple and streamlined. While wearing a lot of print can be fun, it can be hard to pull off and can sometimes end up looking messy.  On the other hand the simpler look is easier to put together and pull off while still looking chic and on-trend. Some designers with this clean aesthetic are 3.1 Phillip Lim, Jil Sander, Lanvin and Calvin Klein

This week’s Fashionisto kept his outfit on the simpler side. He looks casual enough for class, but still put together and fashion forward. He’s wearing a buttondown by American Apparel, jeans by Levi Brand Jeans, shoes by Sperry Top-Siders and his backpack is the Swedish brand, Fajallraven Kanken. Every piece in this ensemble is in a classic shape and classic colors that we see season after season, which is common in men’s fashion. Sometimes it can get monotonous seeing the same button-down and jeans combo over and over, but this Fashionisto makes it modern with the straight leg fit of his jeans that juxtapose with the looser fit of his button-down. Other details, like not wearing socks and rolling up his sleeves and the hem of his pants are what make this Fashionisto stand out from a crowd.

A great addition to his outfit is his backpack. Because most guys don’t carry handbags, backpacks are a way for them to have some fun with their accessories. Like a handbag, a backpack in a bright color or fun pattern can elevate any outfit. He found this particular backpack while traveling in New York. The brand, Fajallraven Kanken carries lots of different shapes and in tons of different color combinations to fit every taste.

Hint: Think chic and simple. Just because you’re not wearing tons of crazy prints, or space-age silhouettes doesn’t mean your look isn’t fashion forward. People are drawn to the simple, clean look season after season because it is always chic. By changing a few details like the color or accessories, you can continue to wear the same cuts, but still look on trend for the season.
