LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: These Boots Are Made For Walking

Let's Hear it for the Boys

For the past few seasons, boots have played a major role in women’s fashion. The introduction of UGGs reestablished the use of the boot as a fashion piece as opposed to just a practical weather item. Now, men are starting to utilize the boot as more than just a protector of the elements and making it a definite style do.

Check out this Fashionisto I encountered rocking his pair of brown leather boots. There is no need to be fancy, as this stylish Hoosier pairs his boots with a good ‘ole pair of blue jeans, a plaid button-down and a peacoat. He’s created a modern outdoorsy look that he can wear to class without looking like he is going hunting. This Fashionisto works a more subdued cuffed jean where the lighter denim helps to draw the eye to the top of the boot.

Some of you may be wondering how to find the right balance of practicality and style in a pair of boots so you don’t run the risk of looking like Paul Bunyan’s younger brother. No need to fret though. Here are a few tips to make sure you aren’t embodying too much of your inner lumberjack…

Be conscientious of the height of the boot. These aren’t utility boots so they don’t need to ride up half your leg. Look for a boot that rises a few inches above your ankle, so that if you’re wearing straight or skinny jeans, you can cuff them and show off your shoes just like this Hoosier Fashionisto. Next, choose a boot that has a unique color or texture. Intricate patterns and details add a classiness that you wouldn’t find while chopping down a tree in the woods. Lastly, take a look at the bottom of the boot. There should be some level of traction that prevents you from slipping while walking, but there’s no need for the mountain-climbing grip level. The greater the grip, the more sporty your look, but be careful that you don’t reach utility boot level.
