I am Katy Beightol; born in Chicago and raised in Barrington, Illinois. I am a junior at the University of Iowa, double majoring in journalism and graphic design.
I have always been interested in the art industry and fashion falls perfectly into this genre. I see fashion as a form of expression. Being able to write for CollegeFashionista is a perfect opportunity to celebrate the unique looks used to express personality, style and trends. While being a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista, I’ll also spend my time working for Scope Productions. Scope is a student run music production company. We book, market and produce many of the big concerts in Iowa City. Here I work within the graphic design committee to create Internet layouts and posters.
I am excited to write for the LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS column. In a world where women seem to rule the scene, men deserve their own fashion shout outs. I love spotting men that know how to dress themselves and, in fact, care about their appearance. It takes time to find one’s own style and I can’t wait to applaud the men out there that have found their own look.
I revolve most of my life around art and music. In my free time I take piano lessons and I also love to snowboard. I dream to one day write for a music magazine or move out west to design graphics on snowboards, longboards and skis. I am happiest when at a music festival, painting or with my family.
The main thing I’d like readers to get out of my column is appreciation towards the individuals I write about and how they cast who they are through their use of fashion.
