FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Tracy Truong

Fashionista Spotlight

Kingston is known for many things, from it's rich history to it's beautiful Lake Ontario pier, where Queen's students go to lounge in the sun. It is, however, also known for it's somewhat unpredictable weather patterns. But that doesn't stop this Fashionista from looking fabulous on an otherwise drab day! Classic and comfortable with splashes of eccentricity— like those killer crocodile print boots-—she makes rainy day chic look effortless and cozy. Queen's students have adapted to look stylish rain or shine, and this Fashionista show's us just how it's done.

Name: Tracy Truong

Major: Sociology

Year: Senior

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing right now?

Tracy Truong: My necklace is a gift from my sister. She got it at a market in the UK. The raincoat is from TopShop. The shirt is from Forever21 and the jeans are actually Old Navy! The boots are Sperry and the bag is Longchamp, which my mom bought for me in Paris.

CF: Who influences your style?

TT: If I see something that I like, I try to make it my own and build on that, basically trying to personalize and individualize what I see on the street. So I get a lot of influence by other people's street style. Also I'm a big fan of Diane Kruger. I think she has really great style. Rachel Bilson, too. I love her laid back look.

CF: What is your favourite piece of clothing?

TT: I would have to say it's a tie between a classic white T-shirt I have, I know it sounds really simple, and a classic pair of dark skinny jeans. The shirt fits perfectly with a low scoop neck and goes with absolutely everything. Just basic staples you can dress up or down.

CF: What is your number one style rule?

TT: That's a tough one! I have a Do and Do Not. My Do is comfort. If you're comfortable in what you're wearing, you'll feel good, and if you feel good, you'll be more confident. Confidence is what makes the outfit and what makes your personal style come through. My Do Not is ripped shirts. You know how there's a trend now with the holes in the shirt? I think it looks a little sloppy. I do not like the ripped shirt.

How To: To recreate this look, search for your own unique balance of classic and trendy pieces. Use classic staples like a cozy white T-shirt and navy skinny jeans. Compliment these with a statement necklace and knockout boots in a funky print. Top it all off with a fitted jacket complete with a trendy lining pattern and voila, rainy-day chic!
