FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Emily Honsberger

Fashionista Spotlight

This past week's dalliance with Hurricane Sandy has proven to be a testament to both the strength and positivity in the face of hardship that people in the Kingston community and beyond possess. One small hint of this “prosperity in the midst of environmental chaos” mentality is the dedication to style that Queen’s students have upheld through the thunder and lightning. Rather than be as submerged in greys and sweatpants as we are in rain, Queen’s kids have kept the pops of colour with adorable weather-proof wear and bright smiles coming strong. This week’s Fashionista caught my eye on my way to class with her versatile outerwear and practical yet adorable accessories. Sandy may be getting all the attention, but this week’s Fashionista takes the ever so stylish steps to put her in her place.

Name: Emily Honsberger

Major: Geography

Year: Senior

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?

Emily Honsberger: The jeans are American Eagle, my jacket is Fairweather, shoes are from Payless, my T-shirt underneath is Old Navy and I got this scarf from a campus sample sale. The brand is Shanti Shaws.

CF: How would you describe your personal style?

EH: I like to wear whatever is simple, comfortable and really easy to put together. I don't like anything that's too complicated or takes forever to get on.

CF: Describe a typical outfit you would pull out of your closet.

EH: Jeans, some type of T-shirt, long sleeved depending on the weather and a cozy sweater. It's cold lately, so I'm really into layers.

CF: What are your three favourite student friendly places to shop?

EH: I like the Gap, Joe Fresh and H&M. American Eagle is a runner-up.

CF: What's the one item in your closet you couldn't live without?

EH: My American Apparel zip-up hoodie. I have five in different colours—navy blue, turquose, red, green and black. I wear one every couple days. They're just so cozy and comfy and with the weather, it's necessary to stay both.

How To: To achieve this Fashionista’s look, think versatile pieces in neutral colours. Keep the body of the outfit simple with jeans and a T-shirt and pop with accessories, like this nifty scarf from The Gap or these wicked leopard print gloves from Banana Republic. Classic cuts and snuggly fabrics are pleasing to the sight, as well as to the touch. Tie it all together with a pair of knee-high boots to add a flare of spice, not to mention added warmth, and you’re ready to look cool rain or shine.
