In today’s culture, exposed skin and college students seem to go hand in hand. That’s why spotting this Fashionista during a frosh week sidewalk sale was truly a sight for sore eyes. Covered up, yet still sexy and unique, she is walking proof that the classic “lady in lace” look never goes out of style.
Name: Chantel Martin
Major: Drama & Classical Studies
Year: Junior
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing right now?
Chantel Martin: My skirt was three dollars from Valu Village. My shirt is from the vintage store that used to be in Kingston, but has now moved to Toronto, Starling Vintage Lovelies. Sunglasses are Ray-Bans, shoes are from Payless, accessories are from… my wardrobe, all over!
CF: What is your end-of-Summer style staple?
CM: Skirts. Skirts, skirts and more skirts. And the longer the better, weirdly enough. I don’t like short skirts.
CF: What would you say is the most budget friendly piece of clothing you own?
CM: I have a zebra print coat that I got at Old Navy when I was in the eighth grade. It wasn’t cool then, but it’s cool again now! It cost me like thirty dollars, a million years ago. It’s great!
CF: What’s your favourite aspect of fashion, what you wear or the industry itself?
CM: My favourite aspect of fashion is that vintage is still cool, one hundred percent.
How To: To achieve this look, embrace feminine, '50s-esque shapes. Pair a collared T-shirt, preferably with lace accents with a statement skirt. Play around with bright colours and volume. Do NOT fear length! Top off with cute flats, simple accessories and a cool pair of sunglasses and you’re ready to rock the ladylike look.
