CollegeFashionista: You said you have applied to be an ambassador for Happy Socks. How did you find out about the company and what drew you to it?
Erik Calderone: I found out about Happy Socks about two years ago when I asked my friend where he got all his multi-colored/patterned socks. I’ve been a fan of the company ever since. I think Happy Socks, more than most companies, is really all about having fun. When you visit their website or Facebook page you can tell that Happy Socks team members love to brighten their day, and other people’s days, with fun socks. Plus, the socks are great quality and they have bargains going on all the time!
CF: Do you think socks can make or break an outfit.
EK: I don’t think socks can break an outfit, but they can certainly make one.
CF: What are three clothing items that you think every guy should have?
EK: Fun socks, a good watch and dark Jeans
CF: What inspires your style choices?
EK: I try to wear things that reflect my personality. I like combining textures and colors in interesting ways in order to make a commonplace outfit stick out a little more. Although, it is important to remember that sometimes less is more.
CF: What are your feelings on men's style at Conn?
EK: I’ve noticed a lot of well dressed men on campus! But, I would like to see more individuality. I think a lot of guys try too hard to look like they are right out of a polo magazine. I’ve never been a fan of taking the clothes off a mannequin and calling it a new outfit. There are a lot of ways you can make an outfit or style through unique combinations. But, at the end of the day, you should wear whatever makes you comfortable.
How To: As this Fashionisto said, socks can definitely make an outfit. If you want to play up socks, wear them with a neutral colored outfit. For boys it is easy to pair socks with a pair of tennis shoes, or even Clarks. I love this patterned pair from Happy Socks. Girls can wear socks in fun ways as well! For a fun look, try pairing these polka-dot socks from Madewell with a pair of heels. If you are wearing boots, you can try some of these over the knee socks as well.
