FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Dorothy Krebill

Fashionista Spotlight

I ran into Dorothy, one of my near and dear sorority sisters, after a long day of classes on an extra chilly day. What motivated me to snap a few pictures of her and ask her a few questions about her style? The amazing assortment of colors in her outfit—hello lovely Earth tones! Plus Dorothy wore the perfect outfit for a chilly day that can be recreated in so many ways for so many different styles. She wore some warm tights with a mini skirt for a fun pop of color, and topped it off with a leather jacket and cozy scarf. ‘Tis time to pull out those warm accessories.

Name: Dorothy Krebill

Major: International Relations

Year: Sophomore

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing?

Dorothy Krebill: I’m wearing an Abercrombie & Fitch leather jacket that I thrifted, a lace shirt and olive green skirt from Forever 21, brown tights, a Marc Jacobs watch and my boots and scarf that I’m wearing were a gift from my mom.

CF: Where are some of your favorite places to shop?

DK: I like H&M and I love shopping at Target for shoes because they’re cheap and cute. And I’m from Seoul, Korea, where they have a lot of boutiques I like to shop at. I also take a lot of my mom’s clothes.

CF: How would you say shopping for clothes or fashion is different in Korea?

DK: In Seoul, you are never overdressed. Here at school, I feel overdressed a lot of the time. Another difference I noticed is that in the states, a lot of people go to the mall and buy a lot every time they go shopping. In Korea, you can go down the street whenever and buy a skirt and that’s it. It’s like shopping is more of an “event” in the states than it is in Korea.

CF: What’s your go-to outfit for class?

DK: A black mini skirt and a sweater or plain top. Since I have ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps), I like to dress really girly during the week. And I hate jeans—I feel like wearing something other than blue jeans makes you more dressed up. Plus skirts are just my favorite.

CF: How would you describe your style?

DK: It’s really seasonal. In the spring and summer I’m always wearing a mini skirt with a tank top that’s really bright, but in the winter it’s always tights and a skirt with a lot of colors like browns, greens and tan.

CF: What is your favorite accessory to wear?

DK: Definitely my Marc Jacobs watch. I saved up all summer for it. It polishes anything I’m wearing—it makes any outfit a little more dressed up.

How to: To recreate Dorothy’s look, invest in an arrangement of tights. Pulling off mini skirts with a pair of colored tights and trendy booties are easy to do and is the perfect outfit that’s warm enough for those chilly winter days. I stick to navy or black tights and wear them under almost anything including dresses, maxi skirts with boots, rompers or mini skirts. My favorite go-to outfit for class is a short romper with knee-high boots and black tights. It’s comfortable, warm and yet still trendy.
