Who says winter means bringing on the dark palette blues? Brighten up your day and that of the people around you with some punchy colors that are reminiscent of the warmer days. Adding color to your winter wardrobe can have some benefits beyond looking good against the white of the snow. Many students, especially in cooler parts of the country, get seasonal affective disorder (SAD), which can put some into deep depression. The gray and the cold can be brightened up with some bright clothing, which can have a good effect on those with SAD. Poppy colors can raise the mood of those that see it, even if just temporarily.
Today's Fashionista shows us how to work in some nostalgic colors into your winter closet. She starts out with a black leggings and a cozy sweater layered over an adorable floral dress that stirs the good mood feelings. This Fashionista did not want to just stir up some good feelings, she wanted to amplify the mood. She did so by adding on a chunky hot pink scarf that picks up the color in the flower dress. Finally she finishes with Frye boots and some cute exposed socks that took the fall and winter 2011-12 runway by storm! As I left this Fashionista I felt good knowing that as she walked into work at the University of Utah hospital she would brighten a lot of patients' day.
