February is a very important time of year, especially to individuals of African American descent. For the last 36 years, this month has been nationally recognized as Black History Month. This annual celebration, made popular by President Gerald R. Ford, recognizes all the accomplishments made by African Americans throughout the years. Each year a theme is followed and this time the focus is on black women and the part they have played in history.
This Fashionista shows pride in her ethnic origin by wearing a piece of authentic African attire: a crown hat. The understated colors balance out the identifiable print, making it a great accessory for everyday wear. Her matching sash pulls the outfit together and breaks up the monotonous black ensemble. However, the head to toe black get-up isn’t bad in the least; it tones down the look while still giving it an edge. I love that she chose to mix things up and try multiple trends. Any black blazer would do, but a plain one just isn’t her style. The interesting shoulder detail plays up a more simplistic staple piece. It is a great layer over her rhinestone shirt that reads “Black is Beautiful,” which is appropriate for the month long occasion. An interesting choice of bottoms are the harem pants she struts her stuff in. They are hard to pull off for most, but all you need is a little confidence and the right corresponding pieces. Only black shoes make sense here and this Fashionista still continues to impress; the suede platform boot is nothing but expected and works wonders. It gives her petite frame an appropriate amount of height and glamour.
Pride in your heritage shows you are a strong, confident person. Accepting who you are and embracing every part of yourself is attractive and draws all the right kind of attention. I enjoy looking for what this Fashionista will wear next and what twist she will put on it.
