Sadly, last week saw my departure from London after a glorious semester full of sightseeing and style stalking. Before I left the city, though, I made sure to capture a few Fashionistas for coming posts. I stumbled across this week’s spotlight (my final for the semester) sporting a look that, in my opinion, perfectly encapsulates English style—Victorian England, that is. This Fashionista’s boxy overcoat, slightly-past-knee-length skirt and lace-up boots make her appear as though she walked straight out of a Dickens novel. The look steers clear of period costume territory thanks to a swipe of bright pink lipstick, kohl-rimmed eyelids and long, tousled hair, all of which evoke an early '90s grunge goddess vibe.
To get this Fashionista’s look, layer a thick wool coat over a tight T-shirt and delicately printed skirt. Add chunky lace-up boots and a small leather-strapped watch to complete the Victorian vibe, then apply Yves Saint Laurent Volupté Sheer Candy in 04 Succulent Pomegranate to your lips, line your eyes with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Perversion and spray your hair with Josie Maran Bohemian Waves Argan Hair Mist for a textured touch. This combination of late 18th century-inspired attire with '90s makeup and hair makes for a one-of-a-kind style that’s 50% fashion history lesson, 50% sartorial stimulation and 100% London cool.
