ALL ABOUT BEAUTY: Ombré Away

All About Beauty

In October 2009, Refinery29 posted this article heralding the latest hair trend. A carefree look meant to appear as though one had excessively grown out her roots, the ombré style took off. It was spotted on the red carpet (Rachel Bilson, Alexa Chung and Drew Barrymore are all fans) and numerous street style blogs showcased city girls with the style. The trend also spawned a spike in unnatural hair color that included dip-dyeing in every shade imaginable. Lauren Conrad incited envy when she posted her rainbow tips on her beauty website, The Beauty Department, while Kate Bosworth stepped out with turquoise tints in early August. In extreme cases, full-on Rainbow Brite tones also had a moment in the spotlight (looking at you, Katy Perry).

This week's Fashionista chose the original ombré look to give her hair a boost. Her natural color comprises the top half of her hair, while a golden blonde shade brightens the look at the bottom. This trend requires a stylist's hand, so definitely don't try it at home. Be sure to maintain it with a color-protecting shampoo and conditioner.

This Fashionista's entire look has a casual-cool feel, especially with her layers of street style staples: a chambray top, fur vest and bright winter coat with a pair of skinny jeans and beat-up boots are the perfect accents to her relaxed hair. She adds a bit of sparkle to her look with bold rings and essie Luxeffects glitter topcoat, a huge trend on the SU campus this semester, on her nails.
