ACCESSORIES REPORT: Silver Lining

Accessories Report

The weeks leading up to Spring Break can be brutal, to say the least. Midterm exams, projects and papers dictate all aspects of life this time of year, so it’s often difficult to even get out of bed to face a day full of classes and exams, little less look presentable while doing so. But while this Fashionista, a fashion design major, chose comfortable, loose-fitting pieces for working in the studio, she also found a way to keep them stylish through the addition of a bold silver necklace.

As we saw last week, eye-catching necklaces have been huge for the past few seasons. While last week’s Fashionista took a more understated approach to this trend, this week’s Fashionista went with a statement piece that takes her whole outfit to the next level. To get her look, start with a simple, loose button-up and a wide-leg pants. Try the Zoe Zip Blouse in Ivory from NASTY GAL—I especially love the silver zipper detailing on the front pockets—and gray MANGO Palazzo Trousers. For an interesting spin, choose a blouse and trousers in the same color family for a take on the monochromatic trend. I’m currently obsessed with wearing a bold red from head to toe, so my picks for this look are red Daria Wide-Leg REISS Trousers and a red American Apparel Chiffon Oversized Button-Up. Add your statement necklace—this Fashionista found hers at Forever 21—and finish with a cute pair of tasseled loafers.

Spotted: The collar necklaces on the Alexander McQueen spring 2013 runway took the term “statement necklace” to a completely new level. If you’re looking for something on the simpler side, try the Alexander McQueen Gold Honeycomb Bee Skull Pendant. It aligns with the bee theme of the ready-to-wear show without being as over the top.
