With midterms plaguing campus, Emersonians may be tempted to wear sweatpants and hoodies when they wouldn’t otherwise be so keen on such an option. Sometimes, it is easy to get lost in the routine of being a busy college student and forget about wardrobe variety, instantly reaching for the easy way out. However, there is definitely a way that the men of Emerson can dress comfortably and look stylish at the same time.
This Fashionisto was spotted in the alley off of Boylston Street sporting a simple, casual look. But what’s different about this Fashionisto is the fact that he gives this laidback, typically indistictive style—a very distinct edge and element of chic. This is a great example of how to dress up a casual T-shirt and pair of jeans.
The first thing I noticed about this ensemble is the way he layered two jackets. Instead of layering a hoodie under a jacket, try wearing a denim jacket like this one for a more sophisticated look. Here, the colors in the pieces play off of each other. The gray wash in the Fashionisto’s jeans is echoed in the gray of his layered jacket and beanie, creating a nice balance and composition throughout the look. Though this Fashionisto creates a muted color palette, layering a denim jacket under a nice olive or burgundy coat would certainly translate a similarly sophisticated look.
Hint: Accessorizing is always key in creating a distinct look. A pair of sunglasses is the perfect accessory to add to a casual look. They will add an instant edge — an aura of cool. The original Ray-Bans or traditional aviators are always a good option. If you want to move out of your comfort zone, try a rounder frame like this pair from Calvin Klein. You could also try adding a scarf, like the Fashionisto does, or even wearing a sturdy bag suitable for carrying books.
