FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Melissa Zoerb

Fashionista Spotlight

My final Fashionista looks perfect in her vertical stripes and tan blazer. I’m in love with anything Lauren Conrad, so when I learned the blazer was from Paper Crown, I was even more obsessed with this outfit. Very polished and ideal for say a brunch date, yet still appropriate for a day spent in class when you feel like dressing up a bit.

Name: Melissa Zoerb

Major: Marketing and Entrepreneurial Management

Year: Senior

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and where is it from?

Melissa Zoerb: I'm wearing a very biased outfit: J.Crew silk dress and some serious bling with the leopard belt, Pave diamond bracelet and tortoise shell necklace. My blazer was a great find at the Rack and is Paper Crown. The flats are from Target, one of the only places that caters to us people with big feet, and the purse is Kate Spade.

CF: What are your favorite places to shop?

MZ: I think my outfit gave it away, but I'm a big fan of matching classic pieces from my favorite retailers such as J.Crew and Nordstrom and pairing them with unique patterns from Anthropologie and local vintage shops.

CF: What is your favorite decade of fashion?

MZ: Being a huge theater guru, my favorite decade of fashion aligns with the most prosperous theater boom, the 1920's. Women were finally breaking free of the constraining garments worn during World War I and experimenting with new fabrics and colors. This rebellious spirit was made apparent through their use of fun hats, feathers, pearls and other embellishments. Great time to be a gal both on and off the stage!

CF: Who do you look to for inspiration?

MZ: I appreciate all the classics, with my favorites being Grace Kelly and Jackie Kennedy. Yet I get inspiration from my closest friends and sister daily.

CF: What is an essential summer piece in your closet?

MZ: Although it’s not just for the summer months, my favorite essential piece is a worn, tan leather jacket I got from the leather market in Florence. Its light color and weight make it easy to pair with any outfit, turning a day dress into a night outfit.

How To: In order to recreate this outfit, find a striped dress in similar orange/coral colors like this one from Gap. Layer it with a tan blazer. This one is slightly longer then our Fashionista's, which can add a bit of a masculine vibe to it. Wear silver flats; these ballet flats from J.Crew are simple with a metallic look.
