FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Melissa Aalund

Fashionista Spotlight

By now you may have caught on to my obsession with colored-pants. However, these are something special and following the cropped trend of pants this season. I don’t have any cropped pants but I’m beginning to have a liking for this look. Yet all pants on me tend to be long in the first place so I would definitely need to seek out some tailoring/hemming which usually keeps me from purchasing certain items. This Fashionista decided to take matters into her own hands and roll her pants up herself, which I sometimes prefer as you can adjust your level of pant depending on your day’s style. Cropped pants in my opinion can immediately dress up an outfit, which goes to show how such a simple adjustment can really change up an outfit. Her boat shoes and simple, feminine top allow her ensemble be casually chic for everyday class.

Name: Melissa Aalund

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and where is it from?

Melissa Aalund: I am wearing blue colored jeans from Nordstrom Rack, Sperrys and a shirt from Forever 21.

CF: Where are your favorite places to shop?

MA: Anywhere really! Some of my favorite places to shop include H&M, Forever 21, Express and Nordstrom Rack.

CF: What are some of your favorite trends for the spring/summer?

MA: Some of my favorite trends for the spring/summer are colored pants, floral prints and bright colors. I also love wedges!

CF: Where do you look to for style inspiration?

MA: For my current style inspiration, I look in magazines or online and look at what my friends are wearing.

CF: What is one of your current favorite pieces or accessories you find yourself wearing a lot?

MA: One of my favorite things that I find myself wearing a lot is scarves. I have a huge scarf collection that I like to add to almost every outfit.

How To: In order to recreate this outfit, begin with the colored capri pant. I love these ones that are crisp and have a hint of stretch from J.Crew.  Continue this outfit with a basic feminine white or cream colored top to offset the structure of the pants. This top from Zara drapes well and would work perfect with a simple tank underneath. Add a little prep to your step with some boat shoes and you are good to go!
