My name is Johanna Azis, but everyone calls me Jo. I am a junior at Queen’s University studying Film and Media, and am beyond excited to get on board and join the CollegeFashionista team this semester writing weekly posts for STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK!
My love for fashion and style doesn’t have a specific beginning point, as I doubt just as much that it will have an end. Fashion is something embedded in my soul, pulling me into its multifaceted world offering inviting opportunities for creativity, delicate attention to detail and an outlet for personal expression. I often put my academic work on hold, spending my time glued to my Macbook juggling between different windows on sites like Shopbop, Style.com and many different blogs and tumblrs.
My favorite aspect of the fashion industry is its ability to constantly change. Everyday I see hundreds of images in magazines and fashion blogs that evoke strong emotions in me. Whether it’s the thrill I receive from the release of a resort collection or the new summer trends in something as simple as this seasons nail polish colors. I am always excited to see what’s new and which designers are pushing the envelope by bringing something electrifying and controversial into the fashion world. In fact, my desktop currently looks like a battleground of saved images from the spring 2012 ready-to-wear collections between designers like Diane von Furstenberg, Rebecca Minkoff and Chanel.
My personal style is feminine, chic and classic — with a little boho thrown in now and then. I love being able to take simple pieces from my wardrobe like a white V-neck, and pairing it with something like a fun, vibrant maxi skirt to show my own style. This allows me to add my own edge to what I wear and update my look everyday. I take inspiration form what I’ve learned from both my overcrowded laptop as well as my own personal experiences in my education and travels, to incorporate new elements of fashion into my daily life. I value outfits that are comfortable and easy to accessorize with a few of my favorites like my Michael Kors watch or Alexander McQueen scarf.
There truly is no better feeling then walking out the door knowing, and feeling like a million bucks in what you wear. Fashion is so much more then just a guilty pleasure for me, and by remaining true to your own inner Style Guru, I feel that everyone has the ability to be hit the streets with style and show the world who they really are!
