LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Grey Day

Let's Hear it for the Boys

Most students have lived through many a cloudy day in their lives, but students from Notre Dame know these conditions particularly well. Winters in the Midwest oftentimes lead to days in a row of freezing temps and no sun. While to those who know the region well this may not be an issue, for new students who have traveled from afar to attend the university, the climate adjustment is not always so simple.

Guys looking for style solutions on a dreary day can take a couple of pages out of this Fashionisto’s stylebook. If you cant beat the grays, join them! Working with cooler hues like grays and blues that complement the shades of the day is a great way to blend in with the season in a city-chic way.

The fit of the outfit is as, if not more even more important than the color when it comes to successfully pulling off a stylish ensemble. Though it seems trivial, this Fashionisto hit the nail on the head when it came to the fit of his jeans. The key to the perfect amount of “slouch” is to allow the jeans to bag just enough so that they catch the bottom of the shoe without dragging on the ground. This length allows for full coverage of the leg at all times without wearing down the bottom of the pants, which can then nicely frame the shoe. The shirt and jacket mimic the jeans as they provide the perfect level of laxity without drowning the wearer.

Hint: If freezing cold weather has you sacrificing looks such as this one for warmth and comfort, forgo no more! Check your closet or hit the mall for a chic gray overcoat to throw over your sweater. A nice winter scarf will have you bundled from the neck down and can be the perfect way to add a pop of color or new pattern. Got cold feet? Slide off the boat shoes and grab a pair of winter boots. Red ears and a chilly head? Throw on a beanie to shield them from the elements. In a few quick steps you’ve gone from bare to bundled without sacrificing a bit of style.
