With trends coming and going with incredible speed in today’s fashion world, truly versatile pieces are hard to come by. Once we find that perfect chiffon blouse or wool coat, however, it becomes an endless game of dress-up in our wardrobes. This Fashionista’s playful polka-dot pants had me thinking of how we can all incorporate printed trousers into our style, whether for a casual ensemble or for a formal event!

CollegeFashionista: Where did you get the pieces in your outfit?
Lauren Jens: I am wearing an Anthropologie top, Uniqlo pants, Aldo flats and my coat and scarf are from Zara.
CF: How would you describe your personal style?
LJ: I would say my style is simple. I love wearing black and tend to build my outfits around darker shades, sometimes with a pop of color.
CF: What clothing item or accessory do you prefer do be that pop of color?
LJ: I like wearing an all-black outfit with a bright yellow scarf or patterned flats. Those are usually the two pieces I focus on when adding color to my outfit.
CF: You really bring all the basics together for a chic look! Where are your favorite places to shop for closet essentials?
LJ: I find that J.Crew and Aritzia have the best selection of basics. J.Crew has the perfect V-neck cotton T-shirts and skinny jeans while Aritzia is great for simple yet trendy pieces.
CF: I love the way you styled those printed pants, how would you recommend styling them for a special occasion such as a party or an event?
LJ: Since the pants are already busy, I would pair it with a solid colored blazer and a cute pair of heels.
CF: What inspires your aesthetic when it comes to dressing?
LJ: My sister and anything Miranda Kerr wears! If I could have anyone’s wardrobe it would be her’s; she always looks so chic in her clothes. Her style inspires the pieces I choose to buy. I also love the way my sister always adds fun pieces to her outfits. Whether it’s a dainty necklace or fun patterned scarf, I always try to remember that when I’m getting my outfit ready for the day.
How To: For a casual chic ensemble, begin with a plain white T-shirt, add a pair of awesome printed pants and throw on a warm coat. Brighten it up with an accessory in a poppy hue or a print such as this a pink scarf or with a pair of heels. Attending an event tonight? Take the same trousers and add a simple blazer over a sophisticated blouse and strappy heels.
