FASHION FROM ABROAD: Thrift Shopping

Fashion From Abroad

This past Saturday, I visited Portobello Road Market. I had heard through guidebooks and locals that the market houses some of the best vintage and thrift shops in London. Many people are turned off by the idea of wearing another person’s leftovers. With the recent popularity of Macklemore’s hit song, “Thrift Shop” however, it seems being thrifty has evolved from a hobby into a trend. So, I decided to take advice from my sources and of course, encouragement from Macklemore, and go thrift shopping.

I spotted this Fashionista while exploring an eclectic table of jewelry. Her tastefully textured look is a perfect ensemble for a day of scouring various clothing stands. The coat she wears combines two different fabrics, which creates a sleek vibe. This style of jacket, also seen often in army green with black leather sleeves, is popular amongst the Fashionistas of London. Wearing the same black coat day after day easily becomes monotonous. So, this Fashionista shows us a simple way to spruce up any basic outfit. She pairs her coat with black cigarette pants and oxford shoes.  Both items are chic and practical so she can shop comfortably in style. To add another layer to her look, she sports a textured scarf and tops off her outfit with a black leather purse.

From handmade jewelry to furs to vintage dresses, Portobello Road has it all. If you are looking for that one-of-a-kind item, this is your place! I couldn’t walk away empty handed. So, I left the market with a new ring and a strawberry crepe. Oh, did I mention there are food stands too?
