WHAT TO WEAR: Weekend Wear

What to Wear

I often find my weekend plans drastically differentiate from week to week. Some days might mean getting up bright and early to visit one of Melbourne’s famous markets with friends, or heading out for lunch at a nice restaurant with my family. I always make sure, though, that I have an easygoing outfit ready for whatever will happen the upcoming weekend.

Lately, Melbourne boasts lovely sunny days, so my ideal weekend outfit is something in a bright colour and flowing, paired with a stylish pair of sandals. Thus, you can imagine how stoked I was when I found this Fashionista, who fit my weekend fashion bill!

I bumped into her as she wandered around Melbourne’s inner-city streets. Her gorgeous green and teal dress quickly caught my eye, sashaying with every step she took. I love bursts of colour blocking in summer. Her colour choice was very appropriate, since I coincidently found her on the second day of Chinese New Year. This year happens to be the year of the snake, so to wear blue is a sign of good luck. What better way to stylishly welcome the lunar year than by wearing a dress with a bright punch of blue! This Fashionista made me think of Proenza Schouler’s spring 2013 ready-to-wear collection–with its shift style dresses and bold pairings of green and teal. A maxi dress is another great option when you’re looking through your wardrobe to find an easy weekend outfit. A maxi dress can be dressed up for day or night, depending on how you decide to accessorize it.

This Fashionista accessorized her outfit with a cute pair of woven sandals, which complemented her weekend look. I definitely recommend wearing shoes that show some skin when you wear a maxi dress, otherwise, it can create an unbalanced and heavy-looking outfit. Don’t forget your weekend carryall bag! If you’re a Fashionista-on-the-go, you’ll definitely want a bag that is big enough for all of your weekend essentials. My must-haves include my phone, wallet, notepad and pen, camera and statement lipstick! I love the detailing trend of rose, gold and studs on this Fashionista’s bag, and how it can be carried by her hand or on her shoulder.

ONE SIMPLE CHANGE: This outfit is perfect for daytime wear, but our weekend plans often make us move spontaneously from a day event to a night one. Put on a pair of earth-toned heels for an easy summer evening update, or tie your hair into a chic and sleek high ponytail for instant nighttime elegance.
