STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: The Vest Is Yet To Come

Style Advice of the Week

Leather, jean or faux fur, vests of all types have been making an appearance on the streets of every college campus this season. Even Hollywood’s leading ladies like Kim K, Rachel Zoe and Ashley Olsen have been spotted donning the look. The ever-eclectic weather of Harrisonburg has continued to perplex my closet this fall. From 70 degrees one day to 45 the next, I'm regularly planning my outfit based on the weather’s constant mood swings. If your college town is anything like mine, you know you need to have all the bases covered when it comes to fall fashion. This means having the perfect staple coat, and having those cozy cardigans for sunnier days. But one essential piece you can’t forget this season is a great vest; slipped over a warm knit or a light jacket this piece can work wonders for your closet.

This trend transitioned quickly from the denim and fringe looks of summer to the fur and leather options of fall. A simple and quick piece to style, vests are easily paired with a classic blouse, as seen on this week’s Fashionista, and combined with a comfy pair of leggings for class. Wear-ability, functionality and affordability are something you rarely find on the runways of designers like Oscar de la Renta and Marc Jacobs, but this trend easily transitions from the runways to the streets. Stores like Topshop and Urban Outfitters have affordable pieces that you can easily add to any wardrobe.

So, whether you’re more inclined to tap into your inner hippie and rock a little fur, or ride with the biker chicks and don some leather, you simply can’t go wrong with this style. It’s ultrachic, feminine and everything you could ask for in one simple piece!
