FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Joelle Hunt

Fashionista Spotlight

When we first come to college freshman year, we certainly get a crash course on Fashion 101 our first semester here at VCU. After your first year, it's amazing to see how much your style will instantly change over the next four years. But this VCU freshman was clearly already ahead of the class! Although she never knew, I had to literally stop in mid conversation on campus, excuse myself and run after her. I couldn't let such a stylish Fashionista escape! After being slightly timid and confused at my out of breath manner, she was more than willing to stop and have her style be captured. From the vintage suede jacket, to the ultimate Steve Madden boots, this Fashionista had it all and her manner seemed like she didn't even realize it. But hey, thats a true Fashionista right there when you don't even try. I'm a layering queen but with this Fashionista, I was more than impressed. I can only imagine her transformation by her senior year!

Name: Joelle Hunt

Major: Art

Year: Freshman

CollegeFashionista: Where does most of the inspiration for your attire come from?

Joelle Hunt: Im usually inspired by old vintage styles that I pair with the modern ones.

CF: What would you call a staple in your closet?

JH: Boots. I wear boots nearly every day, even in the summer.

CF: What do you think of VCU's fashion?

JH: There are a few really stylish people at VCU. But with that being said, there's also a whole lot of sweatpants and UGGs.

CF: Which fall trends are you looking forward to?

JH: I'm not sure about the trends. I just wear what I want.

CF: What are some of your favorite stores to shop at often?

JH: Urban Outfitters, Forever 21 and American Apparel.

CF: Where did you get the items you have on today?

JH: I got my skirt from Forever 21, shirt from Urban Outfitters, my suede jacket is vintage and my boots are Steve Madden.

CF: What style advice do you have for others?

JH: My style is a little different everyday. But I would tell them to put together things that they woudn't normally think matched and wear lots of layers and patterns.

How To: This fall is all about cute heart-filled and polka-dot tights. Ditch the classic preppy flats you wear with them and stand out in some studded black leather boots! Also try mastering your layered look this fall, but with your skirt like this Fashionista. Try a black gauze layered skirt with those awesome new printed tights. But to find something as special as that vintage suede jacket, don't be afraid to shop around at your local thrift shop. Here at Virginia Commonwealth University, we are lucky that our local thrift shop, Rumors, has an online store as well. You can always depend on finding one of a kind jackets in there to rock!
