FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Ashley Brown

Fashionista Spotlight

It's the first of the month and this Fashionista is the first I see to strut her stuff through the fall turn of weather on VCU's campus. While most students are grabbing their hoodies and backpacks, this Fashionista bears the weather with a stylish scarf and fabulous clutch duo. So take out your notebook and take notes on how this Fashionista makes her fall campus spotlight!

Name: Ashley Brown

Major: Criminal Justice

Year: Senior

CollegeFashionista: In three words, how would you describe yourself?

Ashley Brown: I would describe my style as flirty, edgy and diverse.

CF: Where does most of the inspiration for your attire come from?

AB: My inspiration practically comes from my head. I don't really have any particular inspirations. I just kinda sorta put the material or the clothing in my head and go for it. However, when I do dress, my thinking is I want people to look at my outfit and say to themselves, “How did she put that together?”

CF: What is a common clothing trend in your closet?

AB: The most common thing in my closet is the color pink. Why, I have no idea. That just seems the top color to purchase.

CF: What do you think of VCU's fashion?

AB: I think VCU's fashion is very diverse. I see a lot of students that tend to show who they are and I have always believed that your look says a lot about who you are and how you are as a person. I love seeing others add their own edge to an outfit of their pick.

CF: What trend do you think you're most excited about trying this fall?

AB: I think the biggest thing I'm excited about is testing out wrapping shirts around your waist with an outfit. I've tried it once already but it was a plain white shirt tied around me. I'm waiting to purchase more plaid long sleeves so I can mix it in with an outfit so I'm able to wear it around my waist.

CF: What stores are your favorite to shop?

AB: I enjoy shopping in Rumors, Francesca's, American Apparel, H&M, Abercombie & Fitch and a lot of boutique shops in CaryTown in Richmond, VA.

How To: I would tell you to walk to your closet, close your eyes, pick up a pair of jeans, a shirt, a pair of shoes, open your eyes and wear it. Then, of course, accessorize it to your liking. Try accomplishing this Fashionista's goal of the wrap around shirt trend as well. This look can make a really classy outfit more laid back for campus life. Abercrombie's “Walk Me Home” fall look does a great job of showing how to keep that girly yet relaxed look. Also try Urban Outfitters skimmers. They are a perfect upgrade for your ballet flats this fall season and they are very comfortable for campus walking. Last but not least, ditch that heavy backpack every once and a while. Instead of always saving that unique clutch for your weekend outings, rock it on campus. You deserve a day of glam, so get your tuition's worth!
