STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: A Short Story

Style Advice of the Week

Most people would associate shorts with summertime, but that doesn’t always need to be the case. This Fashionista does a phenomenal job of taking a summertime trend and adapting it to winter. It's as simple as pairing shorts with a pair of tights. This Fashionista took a more conservative approach by matching the light and silky shorts with a basic black sweater and tights. Those are the key elements to winterizing this look, as long as your legs are covered and your upper body is bundled you shouldn’t have a problem staying warm. I liked this Fashionista’s approach because it’s classic and chic and would work with almost any pair of shorts, including ones that I’m sure you already have in your closet!

There are several ways that this outfit could be switched around to take a trendier spin. Patterned tights are always a fun option and by pairing them with a cute pair of shorts you allow for more of the pattern to be shown than what otherwise would have with a longer skirt. Here is an especially fun pair of peacock patterned tights made by Wolford, which just happens to be an excellent tights company.

You can also experiment with what kind of shorts you wear. Although this outfit would work with almost any pair of shorts, there are definitely more winter friendly shorts out there. Look for shorts with a thicker fabric or a darker color that will match the nature of the colder seasons. Velvet is an extremely popular fabric this season and would work wonderfully in short form. Take these beauties from Topshop for an example.

So next time you are struggling to find an outfit on a cold, blustery morning don’t forget that your favorite pair of shorts might be a great option!
