STYLE GURU BIO: Jenna Cunningham

Style Guru Bio

My name is Jenna Cunningham and I am thrilled to start as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista this semester! I am currently a sophomore at American University in Washington, D.C., where I study Public Communication and Marketing. One of the things that first attracted me to Washington, D.C. was just how style-savvy the people living and working in our capital city truly are. I am constantly struck by the powerful, stylish and impeccably put together women of D.C. Living and learning in this city has been an incredible experience and a necessary one-eighty turn from the small, albeit beautiful, Massachusetts town I hail from.

For as long as I can remember, two of my greatest loves in life have been fashion and ice cream. Since CollegeFashionista unfortunately does not have an ice cream feature, I’ll focus on my love of fashion for the time being. A few fashion fun facts about me: I practically idolize Marc Jacobs, I consider leopard print a neutral and I have a dangerous nail polish obsession.

I am not ashamed in the least to admit that I’ve become completely and guiltlessly addicted to all things related to fashion. While I lust after designer collections season after season, these pricey pieces remain sadly unobtainable for most college students like myself. This is why I find street style so fun; it brings fashion back down to earth. Clothes and accessories should never be taken too seriously!

What I often find even more interesting than a young starlet gliding down the red carpet in an Oscar de la Renta evening gown is the girl I pass on the quad donning a striking pair of patterned pants, a slouchy sweater and perfectly placed accessories — so simply and effortlessly stylish that I’m filled with both awe and envy. This girl, just a typical college student, my peer, may not be dressed head-to-toe in designer duds, but to me she is the epitome of a Fashionista. Fashion isn’t about what you have; it is all about how you work with it.

Fashion can be found anywhere and what better place to gather inspiration than a college campus, where many of today’s most fashion-forward young men and women reside. I am honored to have the opportunity to write the ACCESSORIES REPORT for American University this semester and pay homage to the many stylish students at AU who continue to inspire me and will hopefully inspire you as well.
