STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Find Your Prints Charming

Style Advice of the Week

For these past few weeks, I’ve developed a routine in picking out what to wear each day. I find one piece of clothing with an interesting print and make that my outfit’s focal point while keeping the rest of my look subdued with complementary solid colors. Frankly, I’m starting to get a little bored with my dressing habits and am dying to try something new — like mixing prints!

I’ve always admired the way my favorite fashion bloggers effortlessly pair two or more prints together without looking like they got dressed in the dark. Inevitably, I did a double take when I stumbled upon this Fashionista, who certainly dressed to impress by combining two printed elements that resulted in a fun and flirty summer outfit. She embodied the epitome of print mixing chic by wearing her turquoise/white polka-dot button-down blouse with her tangerine butterfly printed asymmetrical skirt. Though the two prints are both relatively bold, the tangerine color was perfectly balanced with the turquoise color of her top and watch.

Don’t let this print mixing trend intimidate you. It can be a bit tricky, but the best way to approach this style of dressing is to choose the printed garment you want to base your outfit around. Next, it’s important you find another print that contains a color that the two have in common or that complements the main piece (i.e, the turquose/tangerine grouping this Fashionista opted for). Try tucking this ivory chiffon floral blouse into this feminine powder blue vintage inspired skirt. Even though they don’t share any common colors, the ivory and light pink details on the top are a wonderful color to mix with the blue of the skirt. Slip these brown ankle strap heels on, carry this reliable clutch around and you’ll look like you’ve just found your very own prints charming.
