I am a senior at SCAD majoring in Fashion Marketing and minoring in Photography. I grew up in Florida and attended three other colleges before realizing that art school was the only place for me. I've been working on the retail side of the fashion industry since I was 16, most recently at Juicy Couture, but I'm anxious to explore the other realms of the fashion world. I currently work as a resource room monitor in the fashion building at my school and have had a personal style blog for the past two years.
I've decided to switch things up and spend my last year of college in Atlanta instead of Savannah, and I can't wait to share the hottest looks from there with you! It's easy for me to view fashion as an art form as opposed to something utilitarian, which allows me to have an open mind. My personal taste is always evolving, but my appreciation for the rest of the world's style is constant. This fall I'll be writing the accessories report, and I'm hoping to come across ridiculous shoes, colorful eyewear, unique backpacks and handmade jewelry.
I recently had the pleasure of meeting Raja, the winner of the most recent season of RuPaul's Drag Race. Drag queens probably aren't the first people who come to mind when you think of fashion icons, but Raja is redefining the profession. Looking more like a supermodel than a drag queen, Raja is easily one of the most stylish people I've seen regardless of whether she is dressed as a man or a woman. Along the same lines, I am also a huge fan of androgynous male supermodel Andrej Pejic, who has walked the runway modeling both menswear and womenswear. These two individuals represent how fashion can have a direct impact on the rest of the world — in this case, shattering stereotypes and gender roles.
Some of my other interests include minimalism, bicycles, vegetarian dishes, traveling and, of course, photography. I'm really hoping that whatever I end up doing after I graduate allows me to visit faraway places. My boyfriend is also a photographer, and we love experimenting with different cameras. I recently bought us both 3D cameras, and they are so much fun to play with!
I'm excited to be living in such a pivotal era for fashion. Between unisex clothing, plus-size fashion icons and the rising preference of bloggers to models, it's clear that the future of fashion is equal opportunity. I want to be as involved in this chaotic industry as possible. Fashion is my life, and I feel so lucky to have been given this opportunity to share my perspective on SCAD's style with you this fall.
