ACCESSORIES REPORT: Creepers Aren’t Creepy

Accessories Report

Thick soled shoes, known as creepers, have a history of being popular amongst mischievous crowds. From the goth scene to London's punk rock scene, these shoes are typically associated with the darker side of fashion. Recently creepers have made a comeback on the runways, appearing in a variety of colors and textures. This Fashionista shook things up by styling hers in a feminine manner.

Florals are always a great go-to when you want to balance out an edgy accessory. In addition to providing a refreshing contrast, this dress scores extra points for being on trend with its big, bold print. It reminds me of a look from Erdem's spring 2011 runway. The yellow shirt underneath with the prominent collar adds even more personality to the outfit.

A beautiful color scheme was tied together when this Fashionista chose a garden green belt to accentuate the shape of her dress. Even her hair color is mimicked within the garment. It all flows together nicely, making creepers out to be innocent school shoes. Thin socks with scalloped edges finish this outfit on a delicate note. You can buy socks just like these at ASOS.

This formula can be applied to any outfit. Whether you are going for a hard or soft look, try mixing it up a bit by choosing an accessory that wouldn't traditionally match your aesthetic. You might be surprised to find that your unexpected choice will create an interesting, dynamic ensemble.

Spotted: Creepers were seen on Prada's spring 2011 runway.
