STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Wearing White Without Worries

Style Advice of the Week

When you think of rules, most people think of being confined and restricted, which sounds like no fun at all. Fashion is one of those realms that people have a love-hate relationship with because they hear of all these rules you have to follow to be “in style” or trendy. Don’t get me wrong, there are some fashion rules that need to be set in gold and never questioned, but for the most part, fashion is supposed to be a way to express yourself. Why would you let some silly rules keep you in that box?

The rule that I constantly hear people throw out is the “no white after Labor Day” rule. White is a hot color for the summer and it’s now being transformed into a winter white trend. You can catch this movement in many stores now that fall is setting in. While this color is not stark white like it usually is for summer clothes, it is more ivory and still a good neutral, base piece to have in your wardrobe for these winter months coming soon.

Since it’s a few weeks after Labor Day, and the no white rule is in full effect, I love seeing the handful of people who share my opinion and wear their white with no hesitations. This rule-breaking Fashionista is one of the few and she caught my attention right away. She is sporting white denim skinnies with a bright color block top to take advantage of the last few bits of the summer palette. She pairs her bright outfit with sandy colored heels and a brown belt to accentuate her waist with her flowy top. To really pull the outfit together, she adds a chunky necklace that holds its presence without taking away from the main pieces.

White jeans have been gracing the pages of magazines through all seasons for some time now. They can look great paired with heels, flats and boots. They can be used as a staple in your closet just like your everyday blue denim. Don’t treat your whites any different. If you’re still trying to avoid breaking fashion rules or attempting to not get bogged down trying to keep up, don’t fret. If you feel good wearing it, then you should work it!
