STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Masculine in Moderation

Style Advice of the Week

What girl doesn’t take any fashion advice from any men in her lifetime? The answer is going to be a slim one. It could be borrowing from a boyfriend, a classmate, friend or stranger on the street. Menswear has opened Fashionista's eyes everywhere. It has been the main focus of many runways within the past few years. Coco Chanel revolutionized menswear for women. She created a suit for women, consisting of a knee-length skirt trimmed with detail and a boxy jacket with gold buttons. It changed the fashion world. Menswear inspired clothing for women’s work life began hitting the streets in many cities. For the more casual wearer, boyfriend jeans arose. This is a jean that has a more relaxed fit and is looser on the Fashionsita, looking as if she borrowed it from her boyfriend in a sense. Blazers, tops and sweaters also fall under the boyfriend umbrella.

As finals have arrived, most people are not worried about their style with all the exams lingering. This Fashionista has figured out how to be creative and comfortable. She found this sweater at a local thrift store and made it more girly and feminine to fit her own unique style. I definitely had to catch up to her because it can be a challenge dressing stylish in the gloomy winter weather, but she did it. The greens and purples in her sweater really brighten her up since the day is so dark. Pairing it with black skinny jeans and black boots let her sweater take the stage. Her simple accessories complement it by adding her girly touch, along with her well done hair and make-up.

There are many retailers that carry boyfriend style clothing. Lauren Conrad does a great job of designing the boyfriend style pieces in her line for Kohls. She is very adamant about making them very feminine as well. This is great for the Fashionistas who are hesitant about trying the looser fitting clothing that is usually very tailored for most. Urban Outfitters is a go-to for me if I am looking for boyfriend jeans. They usually have a wide selection to choose from. For the girly girls that are not into this more baggy style, pair the jeans with a pair of pumps. It’s a fun way to dress them up and keep the look very feminine. It also lengthens the legs so it makes them appear slimmer. Don’t stress about the looser fit too much. Make it unique to your own style!
