STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Spring into Winter Style

Style Advice of the Week

With spring just around the corner, it’s time to start pulling out your favorite spring styles. Pastels and jean jackets always make a statement, but adding touches from your winter wardrobe keep an outfit appropriate for the few months of cold weather left.

This Fashionista knows just how to mix dark and light shades to stand out and be featured in this week’s STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK column. She keeps it simple on the bottom with a black bodycon skirt and basic tights, which should be staples of your closet. If you don’t already own either of them, you can always find these items at Forever 21 or Target at a low cost. Basic black cotton might not be your style, but there are many other black skirt options like sequined or velvet (a great fabric for winter). I especially love this Fashionista’s shoe color; it is rare to see combat boots in anything but a dark brown or black leather, so I really appreciate a light tan color. They greatly complement the other light aspects of this outfit like the bag and the sweater. As another winter necessity, this Fashionista adds a pair of thick socks peaking out of her boots for a cozy look.

On top, this Fashionista pairs a lavender sweater with a denim jacket. The sweater shows that she is embracing the cold weather, but the jean jacket is a fresh twist on outerwear for winter. Find a simple sweater with little to no detailing. A fun change to the outfit would be adding a light denim colored jacket; this would dramatically contrast with dark tights and skirt combo, but the medium rinse also works well! Keep the makeup and hair simple because the outfit is down to earth and does not require more than a little mascara, blush and a bun.

Winter doesn’t have to be all about bundling up in scarves and pants, there are many ways to mix up your winter wardrobe and that includes skirts. They are easy to incorporate and instantly make any outfit look more polished. Take a chance and show some leg, but don’t forget the tights!
