STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: From the Boardroom to Broadway

Style Advice of the Week

In between all those beach getaways, tanning, and fun in the sun, the summer also brings internship season. No matter what type of internship or a job you have dressing to impress is key to success. But after those long hours of hard work you deserve to let your hair down, figuratively and physically. So pulling off the perfect outfit that can easily be transformed into the perfect look for happy hour is essential.

If there is one piece that can transform any outfit from casual to professional it is the ubiquitous blazer. Throwing a blazer on top of a fun sundress is the perfect way to look professional this summer at work. The addition of a blazer not only makes you ready for the boardroom, it creates very flattering lines throughout your midsection, which can slim and compliment every body type.

This Fashionista took a simple chambray blazer, like this schoolboy cut one from J.Crew, and paired it with a fun and flirty patterned sundress, like this, and simple black shoes. This look with the jacket, and the dark colors of the sundress, shoes and accessories exudes professionalism as well as style. When dressing for work sometimes it can be wise to keep your color palette away from the neons, and more towards the blacks and whites, which is why this simple dark patterned sundress hits the nail on the head.

Like I said earlier, after the long hours at work, you deserve to go out and have fun.  Rather than have to make the trek all the way home and change into something suitable for a night club hopping, simply take the blazer off. This is really where the work blazer shines through. While at work it creates the professional look, but soon as the closing bell rings take it off, throw it under your desk and your ready for the night.  To add an extra layer to the transformation, keep a pair of your favorite heels, that go with everything, underneath your desk, then all you have to do is trade in those simple black flats for the pair of heels, let your hair down and call the cab.
