Jack-et Up—Outerwear Staples for Warmth and Style This Fall

September 8th, 2016 at 2:00am

Another back-to-school season is upon us and with all of those books and binders comes the exciting prospect of fall fashion: sweaters, jeans and, most importantly, jackets. I definitely am guilty of buying too many outerwear pieces, but my philosophy is always that you can never have too many coats.

Jackets have been having their moment these past few seasons, from the rise of bombshell bomber to the return of classic denim. From the Kardashians’ trendsetting wardrobes to your favorite fast-fashion stores, jacket, vest and trench styles are everywhere and for good reason. Comfort is optimal in today’s street style society and jackets are an efficiently cool way to express yourself.

If you aren’t as reckless with your jacket budget as I can be, buying a few key jacket pieces can amplify any outfit in warmth, comfort and style. These six Style Gurus have perfect wardrobe staple jackets that can suit any look or comfort level.

1—Faux fur coats don’t have to wait in your closet until a formal event—a neutral tone, like this Style Guru’s blush pink, is subtle enough for any day on campus. Paired with a basic T-shirt and boyfriend jeans, it creates an eye-catching casual look. (Photo via @laurenherwig)

2—Experiment with your blazers and try a robe-style cut. It’ll feel like you’ve never even left the house while looking fashion-forward. (Photo via @pupp_nh)

3—For wardrobe staples, many tend to lean on the classic black leather jacket. Try out an atypical color that you can easily incorporate with any outfit; this Style Guru’s blue pastel jacket functions perfectly with her monochrome look. (Photo via @taylormackenzieh)

5—Layering is key this season; open up your favorite blouse or dress shirt over a T-shirt to add texture to a one-tone military jacket. (Photo via @andrew.paulson)
