Even amidst the bustle and tears of what is consider finals week at UCSD, thankfully there is still a light at the end of the tunnel. It is the Fashionistas/os that, despite it all, still take the time to dress up, even if it is just to go to the library. While most have gotten into the routine of sweater-and-sweatpants attire, which I am a victim of myself, there are still those who look fabulous through it all.
This week’s spotlight is all about prints. Prints can be playful and cute when you’re trying to liven up an outfit. They add just the right amount of detail when used properly, of course. Sometimes prints can be disastrous when overused but, in this case, the outfit is very casual for a day out. This Fashionista is wearing a high-waist skirt with little ribbon prints paired with a navy blue top. In La Jolla, even during the summer, the weather can get a bit chilly at times with the beach right across from campus. Therefore, a cardigan is sometimes a necessity and this Fashionista uses a cardigan that adds to the outfit instead of taking away from it. The stockings-and-boots combination is practical but still very cute with the skirt because it dresses down the entire look.
Prints, like the skirt on this Fashionista, go really well with solid-colored tops that are tucked in to show the waistline. The combination is figure-flattering and flirty. To add a little more to the look, accessories like a beaded necklace are perfect to throw over any simple top. Quirky and creative skirts like this can be found at Urban Outfitters, which is a clothing store known for playing with prints. NASTY GAL is another store with a variety of fun skirts ranging from modern to vintage styles. I personally love skirts that have patterns or, even better, dimension because it gives you so much to work with. Even though work is probably the last thing you want to think about during finals, it is worth it when you look like this.
