STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Prep Matters

Style Advice of the Week

As seniors, we begin to approach the final months of our educational careers and it is important that we begin to adopt new articles of clothing that help guide to the corporate world.  Once we are thrown into the professional field, it is important that we act and look our best to potential employers. There are some key pieces that we must incorporate into our wardrobes, and some we should leave behind at college. In with the new and out with the old, as I like to say.

This Fashionista has the elements to stand out and look business savvy. Her bright Lilly Pulitzer dress pulls her outfit together, giving her the campus spotlight. On her way to an important presentation for class, this Fashionista understands the concept of a clean-cut professional look.

Having managed a Lilly Pulitzer Signature store in the past, I wasn’t going to let her get away without taking her picture. Lilly Pulitzer has always been known for starting each collection with a very bright color palette and adorable prints. Lilly Pulitzer stands for elegance with a sweet, sassy, and classy twist. Lilly is the perfect brand if you’re trying to transition to a more mature wardrobe. Vineyard Vines is another similar brand that aims for presentable attire. They even have a collection of ties and tote bags that represent different colleges in the country. Ties are the signature piece that helped jump-start their clothing line.

To complete this overall look, I suggest a neutral and simple pair of shoes. There is already a lot going on with the dress so you need a subtle pair of kicks to finish it off. To our rescue is Jack Rogers. With the different combinations of colors and the chic simplicity of the sandal, Lilly Pulitzer and Jack Rogers go hand in hand. They even make the shoe as a wedge sandal!

My advice this week is to become aware of how you present yourself to future employers. Studies have shown that slightly over-dressing makes a great first impression, proving that prep matters.
