My name is Isabella Walker and I'm a senior majoring in political science and international studies with a journalism minor at Loyola University Chicago. But more importantly, I’m very excited to be this semester’s Style Guru for CollegeFashionista.
While I always knew I was extremely interested in fashion, I didn’t always think it would be worth pursuing. My attempts at drawing usually don’t go any farther than stick figures, and I’ll admit, those are pretty poorly drawn, too. Since I lacked any artistic ability, designing was pretty much out of the question. But I was so enthralled with fashion that I was determined to find a way to be a part of an industry in which being creative is of the utmost importance. I finally realized that while I might not be artistically inclined, I do enjoy interviewing and writing. So, after years of thinking that going into politics was the only option for me, I now plan on pursuing print journalism when I graduate in the spring.
Maybe it’s the Bostonian in me, but whenever I’m out and about running errands downtown or even walking through campus, I can’t help but stare at the outfits people put together. I love observing others and look for inspiration and try to figure out how the outfit came together. I think one of the most fascinating things about fashion is the inspiration behind the design, purchase, and wear. Regardless, as much as I love clothes, I really love the story behind them. Hopefully, you will be able to see that with my findings this semester.
I can’t wait to start photographing and reporting on street style at this beautiful campus on the lake, and who knows, if you catch me checking out your outfit, you might even end up on the site yourself!
