This week’s Passionista is a University of Michigan student who is from Toronto, Canada. She is currently interning with Syndicate Media Group in New York City. Her cool military-inspired chic is a perfect match with her passion: traveling. As a jetsetter, she opts for a functional and fashionable daily look to stay on-the-go. While running around in the modern jungle, what else can beat a simple earthy tone ensemble?
Name: Stephanie Kyereme
Passion: Traveling
Year: Senior
CollegeFashionista: How does your passion impact your style?
Stephanie Kyereme: Travelling impacts my style because I am always inspired by the cultures and styles of what is around me. Everyone's sense of style is different wherever you go. I often to try to incorporate a little bit of where I am from into what I wear; after all, my style is a sheer representation of who I am.
CF: What is a staple in your collection?
SK: I used to be in love shoes and bags….but my new favorite accessory are belts. I absolutely love them.
CF: When did you start to discover your passion?
SK: I first discovered my love for travelling my second year of college. I am originally from Toronto so moving to Michigan was definitely a wake up call. I had a lot of friends in Toronto who also went to school in America so I ended up taking spontaneous trips to visit them; I just fell in love with seeing new places, people and things.
CF: How did you develop your passion?
SK: My parents have always encouraged me to travel. When i was younger they always took me all over the world with them, but I was too young to appreciate it. Now that I am older, my parents are encouraging me to travel as much as I can while I am still young. The world is such a beautiful place and I want to see it all!
CF: How many countries have you been to? Do you have a favorite city?
SK: Ghana, Phillipines, Netherlands, China, Japan, Amsterdam….. of course the U.S.A and Canada. My favorite city is Toronto — home is where the heart is.
CF: How would you sum up your passion in the most personal expressive way?
SK: The world is like a blank canvas waiting to be drawn on; travelling is like painting a picture of how you see the earth, allowing you leaving your mark/place in the world. All the sites, sounds and people you interact with reflect who you are and have a great impact on your own individual style and elegance.
CF: Who is/are your fashion icon(s) and why?
SK: Top Fashion icon: Grace Jones — she was the original Lady Gaga.
CF: Who or what is your inspiration?
SK: My inspiration for what I wear comes from everywhere and everyone. If I see something that I like I will try to incorporate into my wardrobe in some way, shape or form. I try to be as creative as possible but some ideas are taken from what I see when I am out and about.
