The black pencil skirt and white blouse has taken a back seat to new and improved takes on the oh so typical office look. Don’t get me wrong, plenty of corporate women run around town in their favorite pencil skirt, white button-down and black pumps and look absolutely amazing heading to work. But for me, this is a look that can be spruced up, especially when you’re still a college student and taking on your first internship!
Today’s Fashionista did just that. As an intern at Madison’s local magazine, Brava, she has the opportunity to put a fashionable spin on her office attire and she definitely took advantage of this. I love a good black skirt, and this one is perfect with its high-waist and flowy look. The skirt is fun while still being office appropriate which is key as we step into the working world. Another alternative to the skirt is the office pant, which can be made fashionable and trendy while still being professional for the girl who prefers something other than a skirt.
I have always been a huge critic of white blouses. Are they too white, too fitted or simply too boring? Every question imaginable runs through my head when I approach someone wearing a white blouse. That’s why I love this Fashionista’s take on the blouse. This off-white, tailored shirt is adorable and goes great with her flowy skirt. I also love that the shirt can be worn into night simply by changing out the bottoms and slipping on a pair of fun summer wedges. This is a key perk for an on the go intern. There are a million different takes on the white blouse, so pick one that works for you and expresses your style.
Today the business world gives us so many more opportunities to make our office look unique, and I encourage you to use this to your advantage. Even if you want to simply throw on a chunky necklace or fun scarf with your typical office outfit, do it!
