CollegeDormista: How did your blog come to be?
Gabrielle Savoie: I created Savvy Home in 2010 while studying abroad in Australia. I was decorating a new place and wanted to share the process with my family and friends back in Canada. Four years later, I’m back to living in Montreal but the coastal influence is still very strong in Savvy Home’s aesthetic.
CD: What do you love about the decor world?
GS: I love the comfort of a well thought-out decor. It’s not just about how a decor looks (although that’s extremely important) but how it feels and how practical it is in your every day life.
CD: How would you describe your interior style?
GS: My interior style is influenced by a love for the coastal lifestyle mixed with the tradition and comfort of American design. I’m inspired by light and bright interiors, pops of neon, lots of white and chambray, whitewashed wood, natural materials all layered in a very casual and comfortable way.
CD: What are your favorite pieces in your home?
GS: I recently ordered a blue and white flatweave rug appropriately named Montauk (my favorite beach destination) and a Woven Side Table from Serena & Lily I’m totally obsessed with. I also have an antique buffet and a sailboat painting that both belonged to my grandmother which both hold great sentimental value.
CD: How do you use Instagram as a platform for inspiration?
GS: Instagram is an easy way to take a quick break from work and recharge when my inspiration is running low.
CD: Who are your favorite people to follow on Instagram?
CD: What is your favorite photo you have posted on Instagram?
CD: What advice can you give to students on finding their own inspirations?
GS: I’m inspired the most when I’m traveling, meeting new people or generally getting out of my comfort zone or routine. Try something new, visit a new place, and always be open to meeting new people.
