How To Turn Your Old Flannel Into This Season's Must-Have Top

October 6th, 2016 at 2:00am

Fashion is going off for the off-the-shoulder look. I am sure we have all seen these tops all over social media, magazines, blogs and in stores. But sometimes when a trend is everywhere, it is hard to make a look your own.

Well, there is one way to ensure that no one else will have the same off-the-shoulder top you do this fall. And all it takes is a little DIY!

Supplies:

—A top that you think will be good for an off the shoulder look. (I went with an old button-down flannel dress that I have not been wearing too often.)

—A pair of scissors

—A sharpie

—Needle, thread, pins and some elastic. (If you do not like to sew, think you are bad at it or just do not have time, you can swap out the needle and thread for some fabric glue.)

Step 1

Mark where you are going to cut the top. Make sure you go up a little bit on the shoulders to create the perfect off the shoulder look.

Step 2

Cut the area you have marked and pin in place where you are going to sew the elastic in. I was lazy and took a safety pin to hold the elastic together, but what I would recommend to do is to sew the pieces together instead.

Sew around the elastic and then you are complete!

You now have a perfect off the shoulder top or dress built from something you already owned. I know how easy it is to get sick of that same old shirt. But sometimes all you need to do is give it a second look (and a few simple steps) to transform into something new and one-of-a-kind.
