5 Things to Remember When You Think You Are Failing

We’ve all been there before. Whether you’ve overslept, missed the bus, or didn’t get the grade you hoped for on an exam, your day isn’t looking good. Nothing seems to be going the “right way” and now you feel like a complete failure.

The truth is, everything seems amplified when things aren’t going how we imagined. Whether it’s a bad day or even week, you feel like you just can’t get back on track.

But even in periods of hard times, it’s important to remember these five things:

1 – You are not a failure. When everything feels like it’s falling around us, we can feel like we are a failure. But that’s not true, just because one test didn’t go well or you forgot to do something doesn’t make you as a person are a disappointment. Things happen but there’s no reason to bully yourself even more by feeling like or calling yourself a failure.

2 – You have the power to adapt. Henry Ford is quoted as saying, “Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.” Take a moment to reset and refocus. What end goal do you want? So the interview didn’t go the way you wanted it to the first time? You can now employ what you learned in your last interview to make the next one go even better and get the job. It’s always  okay to adapt and change as you go.

3 – These moments are temporary. One bad moment does not define your entire day. One bad day does not define your entire life. It’s a fleeting small speck in grand scheme of your entire existence. Don’t let your failures rule over you. To be honest, they will be over before you realize it and you’ll wonder why you stressed over it to begin with.

4 – You are enough. When I personally feel like I’m failing at life, my best friend always reminds me that I am enough. You are not lacking anything. All the tools you need to reach your goals are within you. You just have to figure out how to take your skills and us them to your advantage. But nevertheless, you should never feel like you aren’t good enough to have a seat at the table.

5 – You can do it! You have to continue to remind yourself that you can, without a doubt, make your dreams happen. They may not happen on your timeline. You make not get it right the the first time; but you will reach your goals. Always remember, you got this.
