To start off this semester strong, this Fashionisto makes a statement with his very cool wool varsity jacket, official vintage Navy hat and vintage orange Ralph Lauren Polo crewneck sweater with a Polo Ralph Lauren denim shirt underneath. On the bottom half is his crisp looking Levi Brand Jeans with brown Clarks Desert boots.
Name: Matthew Garrett
Major: Business (with a minor in Fashion Merchandising)
Year: Sophomore
CollegeFashionista: What are some of your current favorite trends?
Matthew Garrett: One of my favorite current trends is the pullover or zip up hoodie under a button-up or crewneck. Another of my favorite trends now would be the crewneck, zip up, or pullover hoodie over a button up shirt like a Ralph Lauren oxford. One more trend that I like would be the down/goose feather vest along with a tie, knit usually and again a button up shirt like an oxford. When it gets cold I like to use layers to experiment with my wardrobe.
CF: What is a staple piece in your wardrobe?
MG: The staple piece in my wardrobe would probably just be a pair of blue Levi’s 510 Super Skinny jeans. The outfit is pretty much constructed around the bottoms that you choose.
CF: Who are your fashion influences?
MG: Of course people like Kanye West, Pharrell, Travis Gumbs and Les Freres Jo are fashion influences, but I’d also say people in general. I’ll see an older man in Atlanta wearing a Patagonia parka jacket and think it’s fashionable. Someone on my campus will wear a bandana tied around their neck; maybe I’ll try that one day. The point is that everyone has something to add to fashion. I just keep an eye out for what I like.
CF: How would you describe your personal style?
MG: I would describe my style as a casual/semi-casual/formal because I don’t really stick with one style. I wear T-shirts and oxfords, varsity jackets and blazers, parkas and pea coats. I just focus on what I want to look good and keep it pushing with that.
CF: Which celebrity’s closet would you like to raid most?
MG: If I could just invade four celebrity’s closets, one would be Kanye West (especially his Pastelle line that never dropped). I would invade artists Pharrell as well as Chris Brown and their extensive styles. The fourth celebrity would be Biggie Smalls’ closet and I would just have some tailoring done.
How To: To get a similar look with a twist to it, try a black and white wool varsity jacket, a Polo Ralph Lauren denim shirt with a Ralph Lauren purple V-neck sweater over top. I would keep the clean looking Levi 501’s jeans with some black Clarks Desert boots. This look will have you ready to turn heads this semester.
