ACCESSORIES REPORT: Oversize Me

Accessories Report

It’s tough to stay chic when it’s raining even harder now than when Hurricane Irene passed through College Park, but a Fashionista’s best bet to stay high [fashion] and dry is in the accessories that she chooses to top off her look.

This week’s Fashionista added larger-than-life accents to her basic black H&M blazer and American Eagle tank and leggings. Her bold leopard print snood initially stood out, but when she placed her gorgeous taupe floppy hat back on her head it was clear she was fearless in fashion. Paired with over-the-knee caramel boots by Alloy, each accessory is dramatic and eye-catching yet completely put-together and refined.

Keeping her cozy and comfortable she exudes sensible style, yet her choices are anything but safe or plain. I also love how the gold in her Francesca’s Collection bangles and Michael Kors watch highlight the warm earth tones in her outfit. A less daring Fashionista might drown in these competing details, but by keeping the attitude in her accessories, dispersed from head to toe, she creates balance throughout.

Certain animal prints are definitely timeless, like this leopard print in its natural colors, but it’s her hat’s floppy and oversize brim that is so current. Celebrities from Kate Moss to Kim Kardashian and Blake Lively all favor this sophisticated, '70s-inspired look and carry the trend from summer to fall by switching from straw to felt materials. On sunny walks across the mall it will shade your eyes, but if you forget your umbrella this trend has got you covered!

Spotted: Alice + Olivia’s Resort 2012 collection heavily featured floppy wide-brimmed hats to complement their candy-colored ensembles.
