Have you ever had one of those weeks where you can’t decide whether or not to wear that bulky coat to walk to class? If so, you probably go to CNU. Newport News is notorious for its wacky weather conditions, most notably its torrential downpours and tendency to go through temperatures like Taylor Swift goes through men. Luckily the fluctuating temperatures did not faze this Fashionisto, who looked perfectly cozy and cool in his winter layers. Sure, anyone can work a cardigan with a plaid shirt and jeans, but if you look closely you’ll find the elbow patches that set this Fashionisto apart.

John Michael Jalonen: I am wearing Clarks shoes, Levi’s jeans, shirt from Target and cardigan from H&M.

JMJ: Americana, Western, nerdy cowboy.
CF: What is your favorite part of dressing for winter?
JMJ: I love wearing layers. I like having multiple things to put on.
CF: If you could choose one person whose closet you could raid, who would it be and why?
JMJ: I’ll say Ryan Gosling. Maybe some of the magic will rub off.
CF: What is one item in your closet you cannot live without?
JMJ: Probably these jeans because I’m a big dark wash person and these are the best.
How To: Want to rock the nerdy cowboy look like this Fashionisto? It’s quite simple. Start with a simple plaid shirt and dark jeans. Just add a neutral cardigan with cool elbow patches and utility boots and there will be plenty of guys hoping for some of your magic to rub off.
