“Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking,” Miranda Priestly bluntly pointed out in The Devil Wears Prada. The annual resurgence of the floral trend in the spring is almost as certain as death and taxes. However, the inevitable return of flower power doesn’t mean that your spring florals have to look equally predictable. I spotted this Fashionista looking adorable in a girly ensemble sure to make Zooey Deschanel’s New Girl character proud. Her floral dress and cute cardigan are perfect for spring, but I love that her plaid coat takes her look from saccharine sweet to edgy tailored chic.
Name: Emily Lindblad

CollegeFashionista: Describe your personal style in three words.
Emily Lindbad: Fun, comfortable, flirty.
CF: What is your favorite season to dress for and why?
EL: I love spring because everything blossoms and becomes beautiful, and I get to wear skirts and dresses.
CF: If you could choose one person whose closet you could raid, who would it be and why?
EL: Zooey Deschanel. She always wears very fun, pretty looking things.
CF: What is one item in your closet you cannot live without?
EL: Probably my favorite lacy dress. It’s so much fun and it makes me feel like a magical pixie.
How To: Spring is the time to get girly, but you can set yourself apart from the flower garden by adding a menswear-inspired twist. Start with a flirty floral dress, as it is a necessity for every Fashionista’s closet. Add a light cardigan with a lace motif and chic patent ballet flats to up the girly factor. Now that you’re all dolled up, finish the look with a military jacket. In addition to preventing you from looking too sugary sweet, a military jacket is also a great piece to help you transition into warmer temperatures. Now that the weather is finally starting to warm up, there’s never been a better time to spring forward in fabulous florals.
