LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS: Grayscale

Let's Hear it for the Boys

It’s time to take it down the homestretch: the 10th week is here! With the sun on our backs and warming up our dorms, it’s nearly impossible to stay inside. Only two days left of classes before reading days, finals and summer vacation.

As I’ve said before, one of my biggest gripes with warm weather is that men’s fashion seems so pale in comparison to women’s clothing — it’s hard to compete with flowing skirts and floral dresses. Some style savy guys are opting for the light-colored collared shirts, but if you’re not up for lavender or mint, might I suggest something in shades of gray?

Boys, please don’t forget about neutral tones! They may not be bold and bright, but they still carry a chill summertime vibe. Think of dressing in linen and khaki and you’ll automatically conjure up a luxurious day at the beach. But while you’re still in class, a cotton, striped tee with a simple V-neck is casual yet stylish. Get the gray to bleed over into your sleek yet comfortable shorts, and you’ve got a great ensemble that will also keep you cool and agile, ready to toss a frisbee around on the Bald Spot.

Finally, keep your face free from sunburn while adhering to your neutral-toned get-up by topping it off with a faded baseball cap. Gray-brown or gray tones work perfectly with this outfit. Choose to support your school on the logo, or opt for a retro design.

Hint: The key to making lounge shorts look less sloppy? Just as you see here, you should pair them with a nice tee (like a V-neck) long enough to cover the elastic waistband. Colors can either be complementary (think gray, nautical blue, wine red) or monochrome. Though with casual shorts, it’s better to break up similar colors with stripes of white.
