Most outfits evolve from one piece that inspires us to create a whole look. This Fashionisto decided to “anchor” his outfit for the day around a nautical bracelet. This was an outfit I set sail with–stripes on stripes, rope accessories and an anchor detail.
He wore a pair of Sperry boat shoes, a pair of J.Crew denim, an L.L.Bean belt, a gingham button-down shirt and an Armani peacoat, topped off with a Burberry scarf. I realized the most intriguing detail, as I looked closer, his Kiel James Patrick Lanyard Hitch bracelet. The anchor and rope had me sold! Anchors and nautical details seem to be popping up in many spring collections. Red and navy are the epitome of a classic nautical contrasting-color combination. Don’t be afraid to layer stripes on stripes, like this Fashionisto. His combination of a mini-gingham print and a bold striped scarf added the right amount of depth.
However, the nautical trend is not limited only to anchors and stripes. Along with his belt, his bracelet boasted a great rope detail, which was a KJP brand staple. KJP produces many timeless unisex accessories. The best part is the company prides itself on the fact that its items are impeccably made in the United States.
This laid-back style is quite easy to recreate. Fortunately, many of the pieces he used in his outfit had the ability to transcend different looks. Boat shoes are a great durable and casual footwear style, not to mention they are flattering for both men and women. A woven belt is the perfect accessory to pair with jeans and chinos, or it can be worn around the waist of a dress. No matter what, don’t forget to anchor your style to something uniquely your own!
Spotted: Dolce&Gabbana proved that the nautical element was timeless, with pops of navy, red and stripes in its spring 2009 ready-to-wear collection.
