If you’re anything like me then coffee is what gets you through the end of the semester. I’m constantly reaching for another cup and typically have two before 10:30. (Oops.) So recently when photos of beautiful green lattes starting popping up all over Instagram it sparked an idea. I think we have all seen of heard of matcha, but few know what it actually is. I wondered what the benefits could be of replacing daily coffee with matcha could be.

It turns out that matcha has several rad health benefits. Read about them below and see if you’re up for the challenge!

First off, what actually is matcha green tea? The word matcha actually means “powdered tea.” When prepared, the matcha powder is mixed into a liquid (usually water) to form a variety of drinks. To put it simply, when you’re drinking matcha you are actually drinking whole tea leaves that have been turned into a powder and then dissolved into your drink!

Now, let’s talk about the benefits. Matcha is a natural substance, which is of course better for you body than anything containing chemicals or high levels of sugar. Also, one cup of matcha tea is packed full of antioxidants, which unfortunately can’t be said for a cup of coffee. Drinking one cup of matcha is the equivalent to 7-10 cups of regular green tea.

Not only does matcha contain a variety of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals; but it also is a natural energy booster, calorie burner and detox agent. Matcha contains nearly zero calories, but it also stimulates a higher metabolism and does not place stress on the body.

If you’re not convinced yet, then listen up. The energy boost that one would experience after drinking a cup matcha is nothing like the boost you get from a cup of coffee. Instead of experiencing what many would refer to as the “coffee jitters” you would experience a more calm and relaxed energy boost.

I think it’s safe to say that we should all be going out tomorrow to get ourselves some matcha. If you’re looking to kick your coffee addiction this is the perfect solution. Start out by replacing one cup off coffee a day with a cup of matcha any way you like it!
