Forget Heels, Use Floral Prints to Elongate Your Figure

If there’s one thing I’m always looking for in clothes, it’s their ability to make me appear taller. I’m not referring to heels, which can actually make me become 5’3. With the right pieces, such as flowy patterned pants, you can elongate your legs, which is where a short person like me needs the most help.

I’ve had these pants for a few years after buying them on a whim at Forever 21. They’re much louder than the rest of my wardrobe and are typically something I would not necessarily gravitate towards. They are made out of a silky material and are tapered in at the hem. Luckily, they’ve proved their worth, and I’ve learned how to dress them up and down throughout the years.

This is one of my go-to outfits in almost every season. When it’s cold I trade my sandals for sneakers and my denim shirt for a cardigan. The key to this outfit is keeping everything except the pants as simple as possible. For these pants, my other pieces are always solid colors, and they usually fall under some shade of black, white, gray, or denim.

Another trick with this outfit is making sure the pants are high-waisted. This is what essentially makes your legs look longer, which is a huge plus if you’re short like me. I chose a decorated pair because I had a lot of neutral tops to go with them, but I’m always looking for another pair in a similar style.

One more tip is to make sure that the pants are tapered at the ankles. If they’re wide leg, it will not help you to highlight your legs if you’re vertically challenged.

Since these pants have a loud print and a slouchy look to them, it’s a bit harder to wear them to more formal events. After a number of unsuccessful attempts, I’ve figured out one way to make them fancier. By removing the denim shirt, the solid black top automatically feels less casual than before. And with a change of shoe, from sandal to nude heels, the outfit is ready for a night out. For jewelry, I chose to keep it light in order to let the pants stand out. I wore gold studs for earrings and paired those with a simple gold necklace.

This style might not be for everyone, but it’s always worth a shot! If you want to spice up your look and buy something less basic, patterned pants might be exactly what you need.
